When I retired from my jewelry design business I decided to return to something I was passionate about in my younger days: woodcarving. In 2014 I began an online course in letter carving with English Master Woodcarver Chris Pye and found this craft especially satisfying: it allows me to combine my interests in detailed hand-carving, calligraphy, and spiritual/philosophical quotations.

 

Later I discovered chip carving, a style of decorative woodcarving which is also ideal for carved lettering. I’m now focusing on designing and carving round wall hangings combining inscriptions with chip carved designs.

 

Aside from carving, my greatest joy is spending time with my four grandchildren. I also volunteer with several Portland Oregon nonprofits.
